Mycelia approached me to do a 'space scene' and I loved the idea. Having already tackled it in a study I did both for a screen printing exercise and Sonisphere festival I felt I would like to revisit the idea. Its a pretty popular idea but that should never stop you from doing anything, ask Johnny Cash (NINs Hurt). I loved using a famous and much loved photo as a reference and obvious nod then putting a GM skull inside, and a big thrill using all those space brushes I had been saving for years.

As I set to work on the last of the new Disturbia range I realise I have yet to post out last seasons work. I love working with these guys and you are probably sick of hearing me say it, but tough. I love Franks ideas and how he allows me to get on with it, I always seem to do some of my best work for him.

I love this one- Disturbia are well know for 'Subverting popular culture', and with this piece Frank send me a clip of a music video he loved from a while back of this skull pilot. This pilot though is on a mission from logic and religion is trying to thwart his efforts!!

For this piece Frank suggested this idea of 'a magpie collecting jewels and bones, I jumped at the chance and nearly bit his fingers off to let me do a one colour piece like my posters. Which we also planned to do, and did, and came out great.

Ft this one Frank talked about Ophelia and I was nervous at first at how to approach this; from the side, from an angle, from above, how to show water with a limited colour palette etc. I stayed away from textures on this one and left it alone figuring it needed some grace.

Its been a long time since I took pen to paper. A while back I found this Chinese book with all the pages falling out, the book fascinated me and I considered it for a long time. I decided to stain the pages and see if I could draw on then. With a chai tea and a fine line pen I have been enjoying making this small pictures for a few months now. Had an email from a great band in Jo-Burg a while back to create an album cover, After a few discussions we arrived at something that wasnt so 'city' as we thought this may be too obvious, but we still put the Jo-burg skyline in the background and talked about the animals in Africa. Good guys and great band. The spaces on the cover are for more text which we put on later.

From Disturbias summer season they asked me to produce some pieces to go with the theme Dead Empires, one idea was a magpie hording jewels and bones, and this is what I came up with. We were both thrilled with the final piece as were Distubia fans so we decided to print off a few posters, and they are finally here: Limited Edition of 50. One colour. 17.7 x 25.1". This is my depiction of the brief "Grim Reaper". I like to imagine things aren't always what you expect them to be. I imagine the grim reaper is a very pained person that doesn't really have any concept of death and death is not his doing but rather his to deal with. It probably upsets him each single time.

I jumped at the chance, not just because it sounded like a great project but because the guy sent me a letter about who he was and what he stood for, his philosophy and his beliefs. the guys over at store envy (you should check them out- link is below and to the right) asked me to go mad with 10 colours, gradients and 'give us a challenge when it comes to printing'. So I came up with this. I am looking forward to seeing it finalized as they are one of the best printers in the USA in my opinion, they will separate, halftone and print as large as possible. They are giving it away to an online community of artists and tee companies as a thank you for their constant reference, demand and well deserved praise for being ace printers.

Did you know that it was made in 1979- three years after I was born!! Geiger, the designer of the alien was never credited for doing it. It still remains the most scary alien and most definitive alien to date- I believe due to Geigers ability to know what we are as humans, what drives us and what we fear...I once heard him say that the most scary moment of his life was the point of strangulation when he was born of his mothers vagina around his neck...amazing fellow.

So the guys were good as gold on this and again just left it up to me and I have been dying to do some samurai for about 6 months but never found the time to do it personally. So when they guys gave me free reign I jumped at the chance to do it.

Had a wail of a time with this one, mainly because I couldnt get the idea of Robin Hood as nothing more than a tights wearing Erol Flynn type nonce out of my head ahaha. But alas, t'was tyme to maketh the legend into the deamon, so we made him gnarly and as I saw him: a homocidal nutter.
